Bill Haney Alleges Matias Demanded $4M for Bout; Matias' Team Refutes Claim

Bill Haney has asserted that Subriel Matias demanded $4 million for a potential unification bout against Devin Haney.

Bill made these remarks in response to inquiries about Devin's future plans after his dominant victory over Regis Prograis. Devin achieved a unanimous decision win, securing every round with scores of 120-107 across the board.

Matias, known for his knockout prowess with 20 wins in 21 fights, posed a potential test for Haney at 140 pounds. However, Bill Haney expressed disappointment, claiming that Matias' camp appeared hesitant to engage by setting a high financial demand.

“The kid wants $4 million.’ I told him the kid only made a couple hundred thousand. We didn’t make $4 million to go to Australia [to fight former IBF, WBA & WBO lightweight champion George Kambosos Jr. in 2022]. We made $2.8 [million.] Peter Kahn knows that…He was the manager of George Kambosos, so we were able to negotiate that, but Peter didn’t put $4 million on the table for Devin. It was far less than that. I just thought that was ridiculous, and it was one way to tell me to stop calling him,” Bill Haney said

However, Matias' team has offered a contrasting account. The IBF champion has been associated with a potential matchup against Teofimo Lopez. Reports indicated that discussions were underway for a bout between Lopez and Matias, but Matias withdrew from consideration citing a hand injury.

Meanwhile, Matias’ camp denied receiving a Haney fight offer.

“Subriel Matías’ team has not received any calls about negotiations to face Devin Haney. Peter Kahn has NOTHING to do with Subriel Matías. Promoter Juan Orengo and Matías’ manager, Pedro Cruz are the only representatives of ‘Orgullo De Maternillo,” Matias’ spokesperson
