Devin Haney has been issued a $25,000 fine by the Nevada Athletic Commission for his actions during the weigh-ins leading up to his fight against Vasyl Lomachenko in May.
Initially, a significant portion of Haney's purse, a staggering $400,000, was withheld as a consequence of the physical altercation with Lomachenko that took place a day prior to their scheduled bout.
However, an adjudication agreement has now been reached, resulting in Haney being required to pay a $25,000 fine, along with $326 in prosecution fees. These penalties will be deducted from the amount already held by the commission, and the remaining balance of the $400,000 will be released to Haney.
Originally, the withheld sum represented 10 percent of Haney's $4 million purse, which prompted the commission to initiate a disciplinary complaint against the boxer.
Immediately after the shove happened, Haney addressed his actions while saying “that was just the start, you see how easy I pushed him? He’s a smaller man and I’m going to impose my will on him.”
Ultimately, Haney won a unanimous decision over Lomachenko to move to 30-0 in his career.
