Georges St-Pierre asked one question, and the internet lost its mind.
"Is a man who has sex with men automatically gay? Let me know what you think," the former two-division UFC champion posted on X, alongside a clip from his podcast. The post exploded — over a million views, thousands of comments, trending on X. In the hypermasculine world of combat sports, a legend asking that question out loud was enough to break the algorithm.
But here's what the clickbait clip didn't tell you: the actual episode was a serious, healthy sex-education conversation with Dr. Lauri Betito, an experienced psychologist and sex therapist. GSP brought up the prison example — men who engage in sexual activity with other men while incarcerated — and asked whether that makes them homosexual. Betito's answer: "Nope, it doesn't." She explained that sexual behavior and sexual identity aren't necessarily the same thing. The episode covered far more ground too — performance anxiety, the female orgasm, beauty standards, trauma — topics that almost never get an honest hearing in fight culture.
Naturally, the memes came anyway. "George has done a little too much jiu jitsu," one commenter wrote. Another: "This automatically drops him 3-4 spots on the GOAT List." Fans who clicked expecting a headline got a therapy session — and judging by the 700+ replies still arguing about the answer, the clip did exactly what good media does: it started a conversation nobody in MMA was having.
Worth remembering who this is. St-Pierre, now 45, retired from fighting in 2019 on a 13-fight win streak, a two-division champion who avenged both of his losses and left with nothing left to prove. Since then: acting, and more recently podcasting. This is a man at the age and stature where he could say absolutely nothing and stay a legend — and instead he's using his platform to normalize a conversation the fight world has dodged forever.
The DAOS take: the memes are funny, but don't miss the point. One of the greatest fighters to ever live just spent his platform on sex education instead of another highlight reel. That takes more courage than most title defenses. Respect to GSP — the GOAT keeps finding new fights worth having.
