Rajinikanth is about to remind the world what a box office event looks like.
Jailer 2 — the Nelson Dilipkumar sequel with Thalaiva back as Tiger — has pulled Rs 39.81 crore in day-one advance booking on 18.81 lakh tickets, per Sacnilk, with total advance sales hitting Rs 72.53 crore and counting. That's the second-highest day-one advance ever for a Rajinikanth film, behind only last year's Coolie (Rs 46.36 crore). Night shows are doing the heavy lifting at Rs 13.72 crore, and fans have been waiting three years since the 2023 original.
The cast is stacked: Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, and Rithvik return, with S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty, and Vidya Balan joining. And the sequel almost didn't happen — Rajini says he usually refuses follow-ups (he turned down Baasha 2 and Petta 2) but felt Jailer's story had too much left in the tank.
The DAOS take: a superstar who doesn't do sequels making an exception is a fighter coming back for one more round he believes in. Bet on that instinct.
