Jake Northfa$e

Jake Northfa$e is an independent hip-hop artist from New York City's Lower East Side, and the co-owner of Deadly Art of Survival Magazine. On flyers and features you may also see the name written as Jake Northfase.

He is the son of Nathan Ingram, founder of The Deadly Art of Survival and star of Charlie Ahearn's 1979 film of the same name — a pioneering martial artist who was one of the first Black Ghost Shadows in Chinatown. That lineage is the foundation of Jake's music: as he puts it, his mission is to reconnect hip-hop with its lost martial arts foundation.

Roots

Raised in a musical, churchgoing family, Jake's early sound was shaped by the soul of Motown, the groove of disco, and the edge of alternative music. Outside the studio, his life has been defined by discipline — a former high school basketball player and a 2nd degree black belt in martial arts. That combination of athletic focus and creative passion is what drives his conscious hip-hop, where storytelling takes center stage.

The music

Jake's breakout record is "The Apartheid," revisited as "The Apartheid Remix" featuring Wu-Tang's Killah Priest — raw, boom-bap storytelling about separation, gatekeeping, and building a bridge to the other side. His release "Nissan" carries the same 90s-inspired energy: forward motion, lane switching, and staying sharp.

He has opened for artists including Cormega, Neek Bucks, and Shabazz the Disciple, and is a Lo Life affiliate — part of the same original wave that shaped foundational street culture long before it became commercialized.

DAOS and the stage

As co-owner of Deadly Art of Survival Magazine, Jake has built momentum both on stage and in the streets. He performs with the DAOS movement behind him, including the Brooklyn House Rules album release party and DJ J-Ronin's Annual All Elements Festival, and he takes the stage live at the Halloween Party & Upcoming Artist Showcase in Plainfield, NJ on October 31, 2026. He is also a driving force behind DAOS CON, the recurring summit that fuses hip-hop, martial arts, and media into one cultural space.

His story has been featured by The Source and Folded Waffle, among others.
