McGregor Mocks Pacquiao as Mayweather Rematch Announcement Fizzles

Conor McGregor poked fun at Manny Pacquiao after Pacquiao surprisingly revealed a rematch with Floyd Mayweather is set for 2024.

The eight-weight boxing world champion made a guest appearance at an MMA event at the Saitama Super Arena in Japan on New Year's Eve.

RIZIN CEO Nobuyuki Sakakibara, who organized the event, invited Pacquiao into the ring, and they announced that a fight with Mayweather was officially happening.

Pacquiao started talking about a 'big fight' in his speech but didn't mention his opponent until Sakakibara encouraged him to do so.

He said: "Next year, I hope to see you here in Japan with a big fight against... Floyd Mayweather.

"I thought you didn’t want me to say that. I’m excited for that.”

The big announcement didn't create much excitement among the audience, and those watching at home were surprised to learn about such a significant fight in that way.

Mayweather hasn't officially agreed to face the Filipino boxing legend again, despite winning their first meeting, which was the highest-grossing boxing fight of all time nine years ago.

McGregor found humor in Pacquiao's promotional approach. 'Notorious' posted a video of the announcement on his Instagram story, adding a snarky caption and a crying laughing emoji to poke fun at Pacquiao.

“A lesson in how not to make an announcement,” McGregor wrote.

The ex-two-weight UFC champ demonstrated how to make an announcement by sharing a video where he revealed the date and weight for his upcoming fight with Michael Chandler. Just a few days after McGregor mentioned discussions about fighting Pacquiao, both fighters confirmed different opponents.

Seems like until they actually face off, McGregor will keep adding fuel to the fire by taking shots at Pacquiao on social media.
