A colorful idea went sideways — literally.
Kolkata's authorities painted several city flyovers — the Gariahat, Chingrighata, and a stretch of Red Road — in bright rainbow VIBGYOR colors ahead of the festive season. Then the rain came. Viral videos showed bikers skidding and falling in quick succession on the slick, rain-soaked rainbow stretch of the Chingrighata flyover on Wednesday, and the whole thing blew up online.
The response was fast: a probe was ordered, and crews were sent out overnight to scrub the paint off the flyovers before it hurt anyone else. Ministers defended the original plan as safety-compliant; the footage said otherwise. The lesson from road-safety folks: decorative coatings can turn ice-rink slippery when wet, especially without anti-skid aggregate — and motorcycles pay the price first.
The DAOS take: good intentions, bad surface. Culture looks great until somebody skids on it. Respect the grind of the crews who fixed it overnight — and every biker out there riding in the rain, slow down on painted pavement.
