Shakur Stevenson has set his sights on a future showdown with Gervonta Davis.
The prospect of a Stevenson-Davis clash has surfaced repeatedly, albeit with Davis's trainer, Calvin Ford, previously dismissing the notion due to financial considerations. Stevenson has made it clear that he won't settle for lowball offers, as evidenced by his rejection of Devin Haney's 25 percent offer for a fight. Davis, on the other hand, recently emerged from incarceration following his significant victory over Ryan Garcia, establishing himself as the self-proclaimed "face of boxing." Their bout reportedly garnered over $1.2 million in pay-per-view sales, underscoring Davis's larger draw. Consequently, Tank's next fight is expected to serve as preparation for a potentially colossal showdown.
“Tank is the best fight. There is one fight that needs to happen in boxing. I’m not Tank. He’s the pay-per-view star. I can’t throw no offers to Tank. Who am I to throw an offer to the biggest star in boxing? What am I going to offer him? It doesn’t make sense.
“That would have to be on their part on their team to do that. I want to do that. I would love that. I think that’s the biggest fight in boxing skills-wise. I want to prove to the world who I truly am. You could name five fighters, but all those other dudes don’t matter. There’s just one fighter that I want to fight when it comes down to it,” Shakur said
Before Stevenson can entertain that prospect, though, he must first concentrate on his upcoming bout. He is scheduled to face Frank De Los Santos in a WBC title eliminator at lightweight on November 16th, 2023. A victory in this contest would elevate Stevenson to the status of a three-division champion, opening doors to secure more high-profile matchups, a prospect that bodes well for his future in the sport.
