Eight hours. That's how long Yuleidy Ixcotoyac spent inside a coffin — alive.
The 15-year-old collapsed in a car Saturday morning while her father, Abraham Ixcotoyac, was driving her to a medical center in Guatemala. The frantic father — an evangelical pastor — stopped the car, checked for a pulse and breathing, found neither, and declared his daughter dead on the spot.
Here's the part that should make everybody pause: no doctor ever confirmed it. No death certificate was ever issued. A coffin was purchased anyway, and by 2:30 that afternoon, mourners had gathered around the family home in the rural village of El Jocote for the wake.
Then Yuleidy's mother, Lesvia Ríos, leaned over the casket weeping — and noticed movement. "I kept saying she was alive; she wasn't dead," she told local media. "When I was crying on top of her casket, we opened the window and she was moving, she was waking up and suddenly she sat up."
Dramatic footage now going viral shows the teen — in a pink T-shirt — sitting up inside the coffin as stunned loved ones shout "hallelujah." She's recovering at home. Guatemala's Public Ministry has since opened an investigation into how a child was declared dead and placed in a coffin without any medical certification.
The DAOS take: this isn't just a viral miracle clip — it's about how thin the line gets when poverty and distance from real medical care enter the picture. A 15-year-old girl nearly got buried because nobody with training ever checked. Let that sit.
