Hollywood's Halloween weekend belonged to the underdog — and it was not even close to the movie anyone expected. The documentary You Can See Everything edged out DC's Clayface for the No. 1 spot at the North American box office, winning the weekend by roughly $200,000 in one of the quietest frames of the year.
The numbers tell the story. You Can See Everything, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, earned an estimated $10.6 million across more than 3,200 theaters in its third weekend, a 43 percent drop that still lifted its domestic total to $63.9 million — a massive return against a reported $7 million production budget. Clayface, the DC Studios release centered on the Batman villain, took $10.4 million in its second weekend, a 57 percent slide from its $33.7 million opening, bringing its domestic total to $44.1 million against a reported $44 million budget. Saturday belonged to Clayface, which pulled $4.275 million on Halloween itself against the doc's $3.58 million — but Sunday reversed the order, and the doc held on.
Further down the chart, Laika's animated feature Wildwood took third with $7.5 million, bringing its domestic total to $25.9 million, while Black Bear's Wicker added $4.1 million and the new Street Fighter movie rounded out the top five at $3.2 million. All releases combined for roughly $56 to $62 million, one of the weakest weekends of 2026, as Halloween festivities kept moviegoers away from cinemas. Still, the domestic box office remains about 17 percent ahead of last year, with year-to-date earnings around $8.5 billion.
The upset is a reminder of how the movie business has shifted. A documentary built on word of mouth and a modest budget just outlasted a comic-book villain movie with a global marketing machine — and Clayface still leads worldwide at $83 million, since the doc has only launched internationally in Turkey so far, with Australia, New Zealand, and the UK still to come. The box office fight resumes with Monday's actuals, and the coming week brings The Cat in the Hat, Wild Horse Nine, Godzilla Minus Zero, and Jimmy.
The DAOS take: the lesson here is the same one we preach in the gym and the studio — hype opens the door, but staying power wins the fight. Clayface won opening weekend on the strength of the brand. You Can See Everything won the third weekend on the strength of the work, holding its audience while the bigger movie faded 57 percent. A $7 million documentary outlasting a comic-book machine is not an accident. It is what happens when the product is real and the audience keeps showing up for it. Flash gets you the first round. Substance gets you the decision.
