Recent rumors of a tag team boxing match featuring Floyd Mayweather Jr/KSI versus Manny Pacquiao/Salt Papi appear to have been premature.
Mayweather Jr took to his Instagram story to dismiss these speculations.
The 2015 boxing match between Floyd Mayweather Jr., a five-division world champion, and Manny Pacquiao, an eight-division world champion, attracted one of the largest audiences in the sport's history.
At the same time, KSI, a YouTuber-turned-boxer, has been making headlines with his Misfits Boxing series. KSI recently unveiled a WWE-style Tag Team Boxing Match as part of the series, sparking rumors that he could bring Mayweather and Pacquiao back together for a tag team boxing match. However, it seems that the match may not come to fruition after all.
Floyd Mayweather Jr, self-proclaimed ‘TBE’ (The Best Ever), has refuted the recent reports of a tag team boxing match between him and KSI versus Manny Pacquiao and Salt Papi.
In a Fullsendsports post shared to his Instagram story, Mayweather Jr declared the reports as fake and stated that the fight is not happening.
The initial reports were from Happy Punch Promotions, who claimed that the match was officially in the works. Notably, KSI's promotional company, Misfits Boxing, has already experimented with the tag team format, and it was a success, according to KSI, who described it as "one of the greatest things I've ever seen."
Mayweather Jr, on the other hand, appears to be more focused on his exhibition bouts at present.
Since retiring from professional boxing with a 50-0 record, the boxing legend has participated in several exhibition fights, including matches against American social media star Logan Paul and some Japanese MMA fighters.
Recently, he announced plans to continue with five more exhibitions in 2023, which will take place in various locations worldwide, including South Korea, Germany, Japan, Australia, and the USA. While the opponents for these matches are yet to be revealed, there is speculation that influencer-turned-boxer Jake Paul could be one of them, following their recent confrontation outside an NBA game in Miami.
Although the announcement may have been false, it's worth noting that a tag team boxing match featuring these fighters would undoubtedly be a thrilling spectacle. What are your views on the potential matchup? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.
