Joe Fournier Appeals KSI Elbow Knockout, PBA Commission to Review Controversial Incident

Joe Fournier Appeals KSI Elbow Knockout, PBA Commission to Review Controversial Incident

Joe Fournier has lodged an official appeal regarding his elbow knockout loss to KSI.

The PBA, the commission responsible for sanctioning the fight on Saturday night, has confirmed to talkSPORT.com that they have extended invitations to both parties to present their arguments regarding the contentious knockout. A review will be carried out by the commission this week.

A final verdict will be reached no later than this Friday.

The pivotal moment occurred during the second round when KSI delivered a powerful right hand that staggered Fournier.

Reacting to the blow, Fournier retreated, but KSI relentlessly pursued him, attempting to follow up with a right hook.

Regrettably, KSI's intended hook missed its mark and unintentionally landed as an elbow strike on his opponent, causing Fournier to collapse to the canvas. The referee appeared to miss this swift turn of events, promptly initiating the count and awarding the victory to KSI.

Following the incident, Fournier made his intentions clear by expressing his intent to appeal, and he has now taken the necessary steps to proceed with the appeal process.

The PBA's statement to talkSPORT.com read: "Following the contest between KSI and Joe Fournier on Saturday 13th May 2023, at the OVO Arena in Wembley, London, United Kingdom, we can confirm that we have received a request from Mr Joe Fournier to seek a review/appeal of the decision whereby he was stopped by the referee in the second round of the contest, in favour of KSI.

"We have invited representations from each contestant and their representatives before the matter is reviewed in line with our rules and procedures.

"We are also seeking legal counsel as to the issues involved to ensure all matters are dealt with properly and fairly while seeking to uphold the integrity of boxing.

"Any decision or otherwise on the matter will be made available to the contestants on or before 4pm GMT Friday 19th May 2023."
