Jorge Masvidal Case Proceeds with Awaited Colby Covington Medical Evaluations

The ongoing court proceedings in Jorge Masvidal's case continue to experience delays.

In a recent hearing in Miami-Dade County court, Masvidal faced two felony charges of battery and criminal mischief following an alleged attack on his UFC rival, Colby Covington, last year. Notably, Masvidal was absent from the court proceedings, but his attorney represented him.

During the brief hearing, a district attorney representative informed Judge Zachary James that state prosecutors required more time to organize and analyze medical evaluations of Covington. The defense also mentioned pending motions related to these evaluations. As a result, Judge James granted a continuance, rescheduling the date for eight weeks later.

Back in February, Masvidal's attorney, Saam Zanganeh, expressed hope that the case would be resolved, but it appears that a resolution is yet to be reached.

The allegations stem from an incident in March 2022 when Masvidal allegedly attacked Covington outside a Miami restaurant, shortly after losing a one-sided unanimous decision to him at UFC 272. The alleged attack caused injuries to Covington, including broken teeth and a concussion, according to state attorneys.

If proven guilty, Masvidal could face up to 15 years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine for second-degree felony aggravated battery, with additional penalties possible for the criminal mischief charge.

Throughout the proceedings, Masvidal has maintained his innocence since the incident occurred.
