Man Arrested for Shooting at UFC Fighter Jorge Masvidal's Miami Residence, UFC Star Not Present

Former UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal’s Miami home became the site of a shooting on Thursday, prompting a police investigation and the arrest of a suspect.

The Miami-Dade Police Department issued a statement revealing that officers responded to Masvidal’s residence on SW 118th Avenue, where they found a man with gunshot wounds to his upper extremities. The victim, who was being assisted by emergency responders, said that he had been shot after an argument with the alleged shooter, whose relationship with the victim and Masvidal was not disclosed by the police.

Masvidal, who was listed as the owner of the property, was not present during the incident and was not involved, according to the police. They confirmed that all individuals at the scene knew each other and were being questioned.

The shooting occurred just as Masvidal was promoting his latest venture in combat sports, the Gamebred Bareknuckle boxing event scheduled for Friday in South Florida. He will co-headline the event with fellow former UFC fighter Roy Nelson.

Masvidal retired in April with a 35-17 MMA record that spans back to 2003. However, he gained notoriety in the world of combat sports as a member of the backyard street fight competitors who were popularized by the late Kimbo Slice, before transitioning to professional mixed martial arts.

As Masvidal and his team prepare for their upcoming event, it remains to be seen how the shooting will affect the promotion and attendance.
