There are some exciting rumors circulating about the second season of Moon Knight, particularly regarding the potential appearance of Kang the Conqueror. The online buzz surrounding this possibility is hard to ignore.
While a second season of Oscar Isaac's Disney+ series "Moon Knight" has not yet been confirmed, many assume it is in the works due to the success of the first season. However, the question remains: how would such a powerful villain as Kang the Conqueror cross paths with Marc Spector?
In Marvel Studios' latest project, "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania," Kang's more villainous side was introduced to audiences. At the end of the film, in the first post-credits scene, one of the key trio of Majors' Kang Variants who appears is Rama-Tut. In the comics, this version of Kang traveled back in time to Ancient Egypt with the goal of ruling over its inhabitants.
Interestingly, given Rama-Tut's Egyptian connection, fans have not heard many rumors or speculation about the Variant's potential ties to "Moon Knight" or even Khonshu himself.
Kang to be in Moon Knight Season 2?
During an episode of the Cosmic Circle podcast, Ayla Ruby shared an intriguing rumor about the possibility of Kang's involvement in the second season of Moon Knight. According to Ruby, her colleague Alex Perez, an industry insider, heard whispers about the infamous Marvel villain making an appearance in the upcoming season.
However, it's worth noting that Marvel Studios has yet to confirm whether there will be a second season of Moon Knight, so all of this information should be considered speculation.
In a previous interview with The Direct, Moon Knight showrunner Jeremy Slater also hinted at Kang's potential presence in the series, revealing that there was originally a reference to the character in the first season.
At one point, when Oscar Isaac’s Steven is “rattling off some Egyptian history… he did mention Rama-Tut:“
“There was a line in the script, and I don’t know if it survived. I can’t remember. But there was a line where, I think Steven, is sort of rattling off some Egyptian history that he has locked away in his brain, and he did mention Rama-Tut. I don’t remember if that scene, if that line is still in the show or not. But it was that small, it was him mentioning a list of famous pharaohs or something like that. But that was Nick Pepin, one of our executives at Marvel, that was his idea to sort of slip that in there as a fun Easter egg.”
To reiterate, Rama-Tut is a version of Kang who traveled back to Ancient Egypt and ruled as a powerful pharaoh.
While speaking with Polygon when promoting Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty writer Jeff Loveness made a comment that suggested he didn’t have much faith in someone like Moon Knight when it comes to directly going against Jonathan Majors’ big-time villain:
“I wish Hawkeye a lot of luck. I’m sure Daredevil and Moon Knight are gonna be great against those guys.”
Moon Knight Meets the Egyptian Kang
With Rama-Tut's appearance in "Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania," it seems likely that this version of Kang will play a significant role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It would make perfect sense for Rama-Tut to start showing up in other projects, including the potential second season of "Moon Knight."
Although Rama-Tut did not make an appearance in the first season of "Moon Knight," there was a brief glimpse of graffiti art that appeared to reference the character. Given the Egyptian-based locations and various related tidbits scattered throughout the series, it's somewhat surprising that the ruler wasn't directly referenced.
One of the biggest questions regarding a possible second season of "Moon Knight" is where it will fit within Marvel Studios' already-packed schedule, especially with the company reportedly reducing its output on Disney+. However, incorporating Rama-Tut into the series would be a clever and organic way to tie it into the wider Multiverse Saga, which is bound to happen sooner or later.
Moon Knight is now streaming on Disney+.
