Nate Diaz Sparks UFC 300 Buzz: Former Title Challenger Joins Fight Rumors

Nate Diaz took to social media to challenge an old rival for a comeback fight at UFC 300.

After Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler sparked speculation on social media about headlining UFC 300, Nate Diaz, the former lightweight title challenger and past rival of McGregor, joined the conversation with a post shared on Instagram and 'X.'

"Real war," Diaz wrote as his caption.

They faced off twice in 2016, the last year of UFC under Zuffa ownership before Endeavor took over. Diaz pulled off a surprising upset, defeating McGregor by rear-naked choke at UFC 196 in their first meeting, dethroning the Irishman.

After Diaz accepted the fight on short notice, the excitement and interest led to a rematch at UFC 202, held at the T-Mobile Arena just five months later.

The bout became the UFC's third-highest pay-per-view buy rate. McGregor and Diaz engaged in a thrilling five-round slugfest, with the eventual double champion securing a 48-47 majority decision.

Despite occasional talks of a trilogy, a rematch between McGregor and Diaz has not materialized since UFC 202. McGregor has won one fight since his UFC lightweight title victory, while Diaz, the TUF 5 winner in 2007, had a mixed record of wins and losses from 2017 to 2022.

Diaz ended his UFC relationship on good terms in 2022 and ventured into boxing, facing Jake Paul last August and losing by decision.

As of now, the UFC has not officially announced the main event for UFC 300.
