Kushinda Lamarr Thornton | New Breed | DAOS Magazine Legends

Grand Master (Kushinda) Lamarr Thornton is a Martial Arts professional, credited with 58 years in the Martial Arts. He is a life member of USA Karate, RSO USA Karate-New York State Committee Officer of Ju Jutsu, and State Champion of USA Karate's 1992 over-35 division.

Grand Master Thornton is the founder of the Kushinda Ryu Martial Arts System. He is a Tenth Degree (10th Dan) Red Belt Grand Master. The styles he as studied include Shotokan, Judo, Kendo, Ju Jutsu, Tai Chi, Yoga, Yummukwan, Goju Karate, and Boxing. Over the past 48 years, Grand Master (Kushinda) Thornton also became a renowned promoter of major East Coast Martial Arts events. He is the founder of the Martial Arts newspaper and publication "The Dojo World News." For many years, Grand Master Thornton served as chief instructor of the NCAA National Youth Sports Program at the City College of New York. He served as a tournament director/producer for the Sports Foundation's Summer Youth Olympics, and provided this service for well over 18 years. Grand Master Thornton is the founder and chairman of the New Breed Life Arts & Educational Association, Inc. (NBLA).

In addition to mastering the Martial Arts, Grand Master Lamarr Thornton became a cultural artist, producer/director, choreographer, and has been a leader in the community for many years. He has a natural magnetism that radiates through his teaching. His organizational skills and creative talents have resulted in the success of numerous cultural events. Grand Master Thornton's expertise and high-tech professionalism are a confirmation that his very existence has been in the way of Karate Do. Best known as Kushinda Lamarr, he trains students in tournament fighting, boxing, karate boxing, kata, weapons, tai chi yoga, street self defense, and body guard and security task force training. He also conducts referee clinics and seminars.

HALL OF FAME - On March 14, 1992, Grand Master (Kushinda) Thornton received the All-American Karate Hall of Fame Award. This award was presented by Master S. Henry Cho, representative of the World Korean Tae Kwon Do Karate Association. Over the years, Grand Master (Kushinda) Thornton has been inducted into the Hall of Fame of countless other Martial Arts systems, and has received awards that serve as certification of the wide range of recognition he has received, as a renowned Martial Arts grand master.

This event was presented by Amen Ra Films, Inc. (Founded by Wesley Snipes), and in association with Kushinda Lamarr Thornton and the New Breed Organization, The New Breed Life Arts & Educational Association, Inc. (NBLA). Grand Master Thornton was the events talent producer, as well.

Kushinda Lamarr works diligently with community leaders, spiritual advisers, the public and private school systems and NYPD community relations staff to stop violence among youth.

Grand Master (Kushinda) Lamarr Thornton’s instructions have greatly influenced such phenomenal Martial Arts Masters as Wesley Snipes, filmmaker/actor/producer; Michael Jai White, filmmaker/actor/producer; Marcus Salgado, actor/stunt man; James Davis, filmmaker/actor/karate kickboxer; as well as Martial Arts professionals from other prominent walks of life.
