The latest trailer for the upcoming MCU series Secret Invasion was released on Sunday night, offering fans a first look at an all-grown-up character from Captain Marvel, portrayed by Emilia Clarke.
Clarke's role as G'iah, Talos' daughter from Captain Marvel, had been kept under wraps during production, with her identity only being revealed a few days before the trailer's release. In the show, G'iah is all grown up and appears to be on Earth.
Ben Mendelsohn will reprise his role as Talos in the series, providing closure to the storylines from both Captain Marvel and Spider-Man: Far From Home. The latter film saw Talos posing as Nick Fury on Earth for a period of time.
The trailer offers fans a glimpse into G'iah's life and her alien form, finally shedding light on what she's been up to all these years.
Skrull Unveiled in New Photos
Playing a grown-up G'iah, Talos' young daughter from Captain Marvel, Emilia Clarke made her first appearances in her character's alien form in new images from Vanity Fair, as well as April 2's Secret Invasion trailer.
This image, captured around one minute and 26 seconds into the latest trailer for the upcoming series, showcases Emilia Clarke in her role as G'iah, disguised as a human.
As a Skrull, G'iah has the ability to transform into any human form. It is yet unclear whether Clarke's appearance is another persona that G'iah has taken on, or if it's the form she identifies with the most as her true self.
Vanity Fair offered the first peek at G'iah in her natural, green humanoid-alien form, looking into a mirror.
G'iah's appearance in Secret Invasion appears to be a seamless continuation of the character's evolution from her portrayal as a young Skrull in Captain Marvel. The resemblance between the young actor and Clarke is striking, further enhancing the coherence between the two performances.
What Might G'iah's Role in Secret Invasion Be?
Based on the trailers for the upcoming Secret Invasion series and the comic book it's based on by Brian Michael Bendis and Leinil Francis Yu, it's clear that the Skrulls will have a significant presence in the show. Talos, who was established as a high-ranking member of the Skrulls in Captain Marvel, may have delegated some of his responsibilities to his daughter while he was on Earth posing as Nick Fury. With the Skrulls and humans' stories intersecting once again, the father and daughter may reunite.
Furthermore, G'iah's previous appearance in Captain Marvel showed her forming a bond with a young Monica Rambeau. With Monica set to have a prominent role in The Marvels, it's possible that fans will get to see the two characters reunite as adults.
Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney+ on June 21.
